Is the real estate agent on my side?

As with all situations this depends on the real estate agent you are dealing with.

You should remember that real estate agents are working for the seller and as much as they generally want the best outcome for all parties involved their job is to sell each property for the best possible price in the shortest period of time.

The vast majority of real estate agents I have met are great people working in a challenging environment.

An environment where they are generally working with buyers who don't want to tell them how much they have to spend, when they are ready to buy or any number of other unknowns.

It is also in their best interests to not know bad things about the home, it can help to disclose items which may appear in a building and pest inspection - as these items ... when uncovered can derail a sale and end a contract.

The sellers / vendors don't always disclose issues with the house that would be relevant to buyers or how much they actually want for the home. Just because an issue is identified with a home it doesn't mean the agent knew abut it before.
